Batter Up
Help & FAQ
Everything coaches and parents ask, in one place.
Getting started
How do I set up my team?
Open the Roster tab, then add players one at a time or tap Paste names to add the whole team at once (one name per line, jersey number optional, e.g. "Hank 7"). Tip: use a first name and last initial to keep kids' info private. The batting order fills in automatically; reorder it on the Lineup tab. Want to explore first? Tap ⚾ Try a sample roster.
How do I install it on my phone?
Android: tap the install banner, or browser menu → Add to Home Screen. iPhone: open in Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen. If the link opened inside another app (Instagram, Facebook, the Google app), use its menu to open in Safari first. Once installed, it opens like a regular app and works offline.
Does it work offline at the field?
Yes. After your first visit the whole app works with no signal: roster, lineup, defense grid, pitch counts, and game clock. Only outside links (like Spotify search) need a connection.
How does the defense grid work?
On the Lineup tab, tap a cell and pick the kid for each position, inning by inning. The grid flags problems as you go: an empty spot shows amber; the same kid twice in one inning, a non-pitcher at P, or a kid marked "avoid catcher" at C shows red. It also watches bench time so playing time stays fair.
How do pitch counts work?
Set a pitcher (P) for the inning on the defense grid, then tap + on the Pitch tab for every pitch. The bar tracks against your league's limit for your age group (set the age group in Team settings). Counts can't go negative and stay exact no matter how fast you tap.
Sharing
How do I share the lineup with parents?
Team settings → Share: text a link, show a QR code at the fence, or print the fence sign. Parents see the batting order, positions, and walk-up songs. Your coach notes, per-player notes, and pitch counts are never included in a share link.
What data does Batter Up collect?
Your roster and everything you type stays on your device; it is never uploaded to a server. We collect anonymous, aggregate usage statistics via Google Analytics (visit counts, which pages get viewed, device type) to understand how the app is used, but never names, rosters, or anything you enter. Details in the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
My team disappeared. Can I get it back?
Your team lives in your browser's storage on your device. Check: (1) same browser, same profile as before; (2) not Private/Incognito mode, which erases storage when closed; (3) the app keeps an automatic on-device backup and restores it if the main copy is damaged. After big roster changes, download a backup file (Team settings → Download backup) so you can always restore.
The QR code says the lineup is too large
QR codes have a hard size limit; a big roster with long song titles can exceed it. Use Copy Link or Text instead, which have no size limit. Shortening walk-up song titles also shrinks the code.
Will an update interrupt my game?
No. New versions download in the background and wait. You'll see a dismissible "update after the game" bar; the new version only takes over when you tap Update now. See what changed in the changelog.
I opened someone's shared link and it asked to replace my team
If you have your own team saved, opening another coach's link asks before replacing it. Cancel to keep your team, or download a backup first (Team settings → Download backup) and restore it later.
It says storage is full or blocked
Private/Incognito mode or strict browser settings can block storage; leave private mode to keep your lineup. If storage is full, download a backup, then clear space in your browser settings.
